At the Oteenow Employment Center we have a contemporary, holistic and cultural approach to employment services rooted in the history and knowledge of First Nations People. We concentrate on the following areas of enhancement:
Career Decision Making
We can assist you in making realistic career decisions by helping you to establish your career priorities while keeping labour market trends in mind. We will help you review labour market information on:
- The job areas of interest to you
- The industries' trends and demands in those areas
- Information on the local labour market, occupations, education, and training
- Expected wages outcomes
- Individual employment counseling
- Setting long and short-term career goal
We also provide on-site computer, fax, phone, and internet facilities, as well as assistance in their use.
Skill Enhancement
Oteenow is ready to help you develop new skills and competencies related to your specific career aspirations including:
- Help with skills training applications,
- Assistance in accessing specific programs of training and employment,
- Advice and assistance about self employment programs,
- Referrals to other agencies as required for educational upgrading, apprenticeships, industry training and work experience.
Job Search
We’ll help you create your own unique return-to-work action plan, a step-by-step pathway to your employment and career goals. You’ll discover how to:
- Network with prospective employers
- Write effective resumes and cover letters
- Improve your job search techniques
- Develop interview skills
- Respond to employer’s expectations
Employment Maintenance
The secret to stable employment is a stable lifestyle. Together with your Employment Counselor you can identify:
- Resources to access affordable housing,
- Resources for life skills management including childcare and relationship needs,
- Help dealing with transportation and time management issues,
- Help addressing other employment barriers.
Client Eligibility
To be eligible for sponsorship you must meet our eligibility criteria and apply 3 weeks before the start date of the program.
